The powers that be at Saatchi N.Y. decided to run an ad supporting Street
News, a newspaper written, edited, distributed by, and benefiting homeless
people in NYC. Our ad was going to run on the back cover of the newspaper.
Every creative in the agency took part in this brief; my partner Taras
Wayner and I won with some ad that played on a recent U.S. Supreme Court
ruling allowing begging on streets and subways. "Help the homeless
keep from exercising their constitutional rights" or something of
the sort.
It was nice to win this intra-agency competition, but it would
have been nicer to win with this ad, which I thought would look great
held up in front of a subway rider's face.
